This one I think is one of the best matches, just not many people talk about it:
1995 Davis Cup Final Sampras def. Chesnokov 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4
why is the 2008 wimbledon final missing, mate? :)
What about Marat Safin def. Pete Sampras 6–4, 6–3, 6–3 in the 2000 US Open final. After his win, an overwhelmed Safin said: "Never in my life have I played better. I don't really remember it. I only remember the last game. I was very nervous and couldn't move on the court. I was very lucky - in the end I served well and I'm the winner, thanks to God. You think I know how well I returned his serve? I don't know!"
Sampras, who appeared particularly choked up after his defeat, said: "He played some of the best tennis we have ever seen and I give him all the credit in the world. Everything I tried he had an answer for. He reminded me of when I was 19 and came here and won it for the first time. But I'm sorry to these folks I didn't give them more of a match - I tried my hardest. He was too good - anytime you can serve 130mph on the line, there's not a lot you can do. He passed and returned my serve better than anyone I've ever played."
we're missing here the Federer/Nadal rivalry...
The extraordinary 2008 Wimbledon final (you'd have to redefine your score system here) (Nadal winner).
The 2009 Australian Open final (Nadal winner) when Federer mentally collapsed during the 5th set and finished with tears in his eyes because he realizes he has lost the last three majors to Nadal on 3 different surfaces (clay, grass and hard).
Even if not as great a match, I would also suggest to watch the 2010 ATP Masters final in London in which there are signs that Federer is finally finding a strategy to defeat Nadal.
If you watch all these three matches in a row, the last one gains particular interest as you can see Federer is somewhat surprised at how well his tactic worked against Nadal during the spaniard best year to date (during 2010 he won 3 grand slam titles).
